Planning a Girls Night Downtown

Updated: Oct 6, 2020

A girl's guide to a fun evening downtown after a long work week!

What more could you want after a long week of work than being able to kick back and enjoy the evening with the ladies that mean the most to you? Here are some of my go-to mix and match options depending on the vibe of the night!

Something Laid Back, but Different

One of my favorite Friday happy hour spots is the Broken Shaker, located on the ground floor of the Freehand, a culturally hostel-like hotel. It's a great find since you can't actually see the bar from the street.

As soon as you walk in, you're immediately transformed into a different head space. The atmosphere is intimate with tons of comfy couches and booths, eclectic in style, and welcoming as if you're walking into a friend's living room. The cocktail menu is diverse and delicious, and I

recommend ordering the cocktails on special, they never disappoint!

Now for some noms!

Just a 5 minute walk from the Broken Shaker is the restaurant Ema, with a delicious Mediterranean style selection. If you are planning on checking it out, especially closer to the weekend, I definitely recommend calling ahead to make a reservation, it books up quickly!

Ema's menu is set up small plate style, perfect for a group of ladies getting together to enjoy each other's company. It's so easy to try a bunch of different menu options and order in shifts, which is why it's one of my favorite selections.

Something that's Anything but Low-key

The first place that comes to mind is Federales in West Loop. Federales is an open concept bar that provides an indoor and outdoor experience like no other. When you order a special tequila shot, you get to try your luck at throwing the glass (made of ice) at a bell! If you're looking for a truly fun and authentic experience, this is it!

Not far from Federales you'll find

Punch Bowl Social in Fulton Market. This warehouse like venue is gigantic, with several retro style rooms all with their own unique personality. It has all things fun and games including indoor bowling, karaoke, and board games. This venue has something for everyone, not to mention the many instagram worthy back drops!

If you're on the hunt for some live music and in the mood to dance, Howl at the Moon is the perfect place! There's live music every night and a high energy atmosphere. If you plan on visiting I recommend setting aside a good chunk of time, since there's usually a cover, but it's totally worth it for all the good vibes and dancing in store!
